Thickened Nails
This is far more common than you’d think.
Nails become thicker as we get older but also as a response to disease or trauma.
Diseases such as diabetes, psoriasis or reynaud’s cause the nails to grow thickened and ‘crumbly’.
These can cause discomfort by adding extra pressure on the nail bed or by having rough edges which are prone to catching on socks or bedsheets.
Trauma can be from a one-off incident such as something heavy dropping on them, or from the repetitive pressure toes receive with every step we take while walking or running.
The best treatment for these nails is to reduce the thickness by filing them.
